Mastodon is one of the most talented, consistently excellent heavy metal bands out there right now. They hail from, weirdly, Atlanta, Georgia, and the band’s composed of Troy Sanders (bass/vocals), Brett Hinds (lead guitar/vocals), Bill Kelliher (rhythm guitar/backing vocals), and Brann Dailor (drums/vocals), and yes, there’s a reason every band member has some kind of vocal credit. Every member is ridiculously talented, and their songs are flurries of coordinated, rapid-fire, and melodic assaults on your ears. They use their depth at vocals to wield their lyrics like a fifth instrument, adding another layer to their music. Every song is a deliberate and precise exercise in heaviness, grabbing you by the collar and pulling you into the pit. With eight studio albums under their belt, I’ve got plenty of tracks to choose from, so, naturally, I’m picking the weirdest one available.

This week, my choice is Cut You Up With A Linoleum Knife, from the soundtrack of Aqua Team Hunger Force Colon Movie Film, and it’s an absolute banger. If you don’t think this song slaps hard AF, you can just leave. It’ll have you banging your head, both to the music and in laughter; the lyrics are just sublime. If you haven’t heard/seen this one before, you’re in for a treat.
